We Are Proud to Present… depicts a young troupe of ambitious, socially minded, somewhat foolish actors as they intermittently present and rehearse an evening engagement explaining the genocide of the Herero of Namibia. Alternating between uproariously funny and heartbreaking, the troupe must grapple with the profound absence left by erased histories, while struggling with the the difficulties of (bad) improv sketches, and the pain of trying to communicate individual and collective racial experiences.
We Are Proud to Present... runs about 90 minutes and has no intermission. Late seating is not permitted. Doors open at 7:30.
In addition to the play, we are offering a special program: a series of discussions called Community Conversations which will follow each Saturday evening performance. Invited artists and educators will host a dialogue between the audience and themselves inspired by the themes, ideas, and questions raised in the production. Our guest speakers are:
Saturday, October 12th: Jasmine Williams & Octavia Goredema
Saturday, October 19th: Arianna Lady Basco & Shihan Van Clief
Saturday, October 27th: Dana Martin & Fadhia Marcelin
